Lessons in the art of DJing
Being a DJ is more than just playing music: A real DJ knows how to interpret music on a creative level and has the skills to turn their ideas into unique sound collages. Ridiculous DJ academy can help you get a better understanding of the music you love and gives you the hands on skills you need to put together a perfect DJ set. We offer lessons to DJs of all skill levels, all different types of DJing, and in all genres of music.
Beginner Lessons
The foundation of DJing is the same no matter what your long-term goals. Beginner lessons will get you started with basics: learn record control and all about DJ equipment. Then move on to scratching records, mixing techniques, and the basics of beatmatching. All lessons are tailored to your goals before we start.

Advanced Lessons
For DJs with their own equipment and a firm grasp on basics, we offer advanced classes for specific skills.

Private Instruction
Private lessons for one to three people are available starting immediately. Get hands on lessons at an instructor's home studio, or a location you provide using your own equipment. Starting rates for Baltimore city are $45/1 hour, $60/1.5 hours, $80/2 hours, not including a small travel charge for out of town lessons (MD, DC, PA, VA areas). If you buy five lessons up front you get a sixth lesson for free!
Group Instruction
Personalized group instruction is available right away. We offer a few different, one-off sessions that can be customized to fit your group.
The Art of DJing
A two hour crash course in all things DJ related. Includes brief historical overview of the DJ's role in music, scratching and mixing demos, and hands on time for up to 8 people who want to get 'in the mix' and learn some basic skills.
The Quick Scratch
For everyone who has always wished the DJ at the club would let them go wild on their turntables. Spend two hours learning all the basics of scratching, plus demos of battle routines, mixing tricks, famous drum breaks and more.
The History Lesson
Great for school groups. An interactive demonstration of the history of hip-hop and the DJ. This program takes a look at famous songs from the past 20 years and show how DJing past and present plays a part in the music we listen to everyday. Plus a hands on mixing lesson at the end of the class.
