Listen Up!
Have you ever wondered how the music you hear on the radio is made? Have you ever wanted to know how to scratch and mix records like a pro DJ? Daren Lake and Aran Keating are going to show you how it's done! In this 45- minute multimedia presentation, two music professionals join forces to take students on a crash course in modern music production and performance.
Behind the Scenes with Your Favorite Songs!
Using real professional equipment (including full, studio-quality mixers, samplers, synthesizers, turntables and other hardware) the audience will be treated to an action-packed behind-the-scenes look at how your favorite pop, hip-hop, techno and rock music is created. Hip-hop beats will be created live with the participation of audience members, and current radio hits will be broken down into pieces and reconstructed before their eyes. In addition, the students will be treated to a live DJ performance blending together music from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s as well as today’s hip-hop, reggae and dance music. A handful of students will also have the opportunity to try their hand at "scratching" records.
Inspiring Tomorrow's Music Makers
This presentation is designed to grab the attention of any students who are interested in music and open their eyes to the complexity of modern music, while also helping them understand the equipment and knowledge needed to make it themselves. We hope to inspire not only the up-and-coming generation of music performers, but also the next wave of audio engineers, producers, and music fans with a hands-on look at how today's music is put together. This presentation is great for ages eight to eighteen and groups as small as 10 students and as large as 150.
